What will you hear
Enjoy 45 minutes of instrumental contemporary guitar music and the spoken storyline set in the Tarra Bulga Rainforest. Feel the music of the Australian bush, it’s spirits and embrace the wisdom of the GunaiKurnai People.
The story teaches us to listen to the birds, trees and animals of the bush and to learn how to form part of this natural balance without destroying it. It teaches us to learn from the wisdom of its ancient inhabitants that would still be here today living in the same manner as they had for over 30 thousand years, if it had not been for imposing on them, our contemporary need of wealth and gain. It teaches us to be one within nature.
Our audience is the forest. For some brief moments we will be the songman of the bush, we will play and talk to the trees and birds, we will listen to their words and wisdom and for some brief moments the Lyrebirds of this bush.
My original objective was to share with you music that comes alive in me when I stroll through the pathways of this forest. However, I felt curious about how others felt about this special part of Victoria. Thus, I wanted to understand how the Brataualung people felt about this old growth forest characteristic of a time when they were only present.
I met up with Wayne Thorpe, an elder of the GunaiKurnai people and was very humbled to hear how my values were similar to his people that have been living here for over 60000 years.
I then decided to incorporate in my compositions a story of the Brataualung people that would express the delicate balance of nature and how people could easily destroy it. I choose the the story of Worrayil and Tiddalik that has come to life with the valuable aid of Wayne Thorpe.
